Western Sahara civil organisations from the Refugee Camps and the Occupied Territories are celebrating the International Sahara Rise Conference for Civil Resistance. Its objective is to work in a international strategy to overcome the current impass in the Saharawi conflict.
The Conference is being celebrated on February 25th, 26th and 27th in Smara, in the Sahrawi Refugee Camps and it’s organised by 50 saharawi organisations and supported by international organisations.
International experts in nonviolence resistance are participating in the Conference such as Ahmed Galai, former vicepresident of the Tunisian League of Human Rights, winner of the Peace Nobel Prize in 2015. Mahmoud Nawajaa, general coordinator of the Boycott National Committee of the Boycott Desinvestment and Sanctions movement of Palestine; Stellan Vinthagen, professor and expert in nonviolent civil resistance or Magdalene Moonsamy, lawyer and international activist for human rights from South Africa.
The aim of the conference is to reach a consensued strategy for nonviolent action among sahrawi civil organisations and to set a local and international working team to execute it. Due to it, many saharawi activist have taken Human Rights and Comunication lessons along the last year. A participatory process has also been made in order to make a research about the main items that can lider the international resistance strategy.
